1. Who we are
ImportGenius is a business-to-business trade intelligence service operated by Trade Data Services, Inc., an Arizona corporation. We provide subscription access to import and export shipment information derived primarily from customs records, bills of lading, and related publicly available trade data, together with tools for search, analysis, alerts, and account management.
For purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and the UK GDPR, Trade Data Services, Inc. is the controller of personal information processed under this Policy, unless a product-specific notice states otherwise.
Korea- and China-specific processing on
.importgenius.co.kr and
.importgenius.cn is
described in separate notices published on those domains. Where
those notices conflict with this Policy for processing on those
domains, the local notice controls for that domain.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to:
- Visitors to our marketing and product websites
- Prospective customers (for example, demo or contact form submitters)
- Registered users and account administrators
- Individuals whose business contact details appear in public trade records that we process as part of the trade data product (see Section 5)
This Policy does not apply to third-party websites, applications, or services that we do not control, even if linked from the Services. Those parties have their own privacy practices.
If you enter into a separate written agreement with us that addresses personal information differently, that agreement controls to the extent of the conflict for the processing it covers.

4. How we use personal information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
| Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|
| Provide the Services | Create and manage accounts, authenticate users, deliver search and trade data features, process subscriptions |
| Customer support and sales | Respond to inquiries, provide demos, operate live chat, fulfill support requests |
| Payments and billing | Process payments through payment processors, manage renewals, prevent payment fraud |

| Legal and compliance | Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce terms, establish or defend legal claims |
| Business operations | Internal reporting, auditing, and corporate transactions as described in Section 7 |
Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR), where applicable: performance of a contract; legitimate interests (for example, securing the Services, improving the product, B2B direct marketing where permitted, and processing public trade data as described in Section 5); consent (for example, non-essential cookies in jurisdictions that require it, and certain marketing); and legal obligation.
5. Trade data and individuals named in public records
Our core product includes trade and shipment information derived from customs authorities, bills of lading, and related public or commercially licensed sources. Those records are created for trade, customs, and commercial purposes. They primarily concern businesses, but may occasionally include names, addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses that relate to natural persons (for example, an individual named as a contact on a bill of lading).
We process such information to provide trade intelligence to business customers, to maintain and improve the accuracy and usefulness of the dataset, and to operate related search and alert features. Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies to a particular record, we rely on legitimate interests in providing a B2B information service based on public or licensed trade sources, balanced against the rights of individuals. We do not use trade-record contact fields to send marketing to individuals solely because they appear in a shipment record.
If you believe personal information about you appears inaccurately in our trade data product, contact privacy@importgenius.com. We will review requests consistent with applicable law and the nature of the underlying public or licensed source. Removal or correction options may be limited where we are required or entitled to continue publishing information that remains in the source records.
6. How we disclose personal information
We disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients, only as needed for the purposes described in this Policy:
| Recipient category | Why we disclose |
|---|---|
| Service providers and processors | Hosting, analytics, advertising measurement, customer communications, live chat, payments, security monitoring, and similar services under contract |
| Advertising and marketing partners | Campaign measurement and advertising, subject to your cookie and "sale or sharing" choices (see Sections 9 and 10) |
| Payment processors | To process subscription payments and prevent fraud |
| Professional advisors | Lawyers, auditors, and insurers, where appropriate |
| Authorities | When required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security |
| Corporate transaction parties | In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality |
We do not sell personal information for money in the ordinary sense. Under some U.S. state laws, "sale" or "sharing" can include certain advertising and analytics disclosures. See Section 10 for your opt-out rights.
Third-party partners that provide cookies, pixels, and similar technologies on the Services are listed by product name in Section 9.
7. International transfers
We are based in the United States and may process personal information in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
Where required by GDPR or UK GDPR, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, and supplementary measures where needed. Contact privacy@importgenius.com for more information about transfers.
8. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary by category. For example, account and billing records are typically kept for the life of the account plus a period required for tax, accounting, or legal purposes; support communications for a period needed to complete the request and maintain records; and cookie and advertising identifiers according to the lifetime of the relevant technology and your choices.
When personal information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it, or restrict further processing to what is required by law.

- Use in the site footer to review categories and save preferences.
- Use in the site footer to opt out of sale or sharing for targeted advertising, as defined under applicable U.S. state law.
- Browser controls can block or delete cookies; blocking strictly necessary cookies may break sign-in or checkout.
- Industry tools such as the Network Advertising Initiative and Digital Advertising Alliance offer additional advertising opt-outs.
10. Your privacy rights and choices
10.1 Global rights requests
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. To submit a request, email privacy@importgenius.com. We will verify your request as required by law and respond within the applicable statutory period. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows, subject to verification.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
10.2 U.S. state privacy rights (including California)
Residents of California and certain other U.S. states may have additional rights, including to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information.
. We provide a link in the site footer. Using that link opts you out of sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising on that browser, consistent with applicable state law. You can also manage advertising cookies in .
Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information. Where required, a footer control allows you to limit use of sensitive personal information beyond what is needed to provide the Services you request.
Categories of personal information. In the prior 12 months we may have collected the categories listed in Section 3, disclosed them to the recipient categories in Section 6, and used them for the purposes in Section 4. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a separate right to limit beyond the footer control described above, except as permitted to provide the Services and ensure security.
Notice at collection. This Policy serves as our notice at collection for website and account interactions. Trade data processing is further described in Section 5.
Appeals. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision email or writing to privacy@importgenius.com with the subject line "Privacy Appeal."
10.3 Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising for that browser, consistent with applicable U.S. state law. When we detect a valid GPC signal, we treat advertising cookies that share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as opted out for that browser. You can still review other cookie categories in .
10.4 Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no consistent industry standard for DNT, we do not respond to DNT signals. We do honor Global Privacy Control as described above.
10.5 Marketing emails
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those messages. You may still receive transactional or account messages.
11. Security
We maintain administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong unique password for your account and notify us promptly of any suspected unauthorized access.
12. Automated decision-making
We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about individuals, except as needed for fraud prevention and security. Product analytics and advertising measurement do not constitute that type of decision-making.
13. Third-party links and integrations
The Services may link to third-party sites or embed third-party tools (for example, scheduling or payment pages). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party content or practices outside our control.
14. Business customers and employee accounts
If you use ImportGenius under a company subscription, your employer or the account administrator may control your account, access usage associated with the subscription, and submit privacy requests that relate to company-managed data. We may also process limited account administration data as a controller as described in this Policy.
